Background: The only child of wealthy, socialite parents, Idina Murray was a rather lonely child. While her parents spent much of their time entertaining and in the company of the wizarding elite, Idina found solace in three things: acting, astronomy, and food. What started as performces stories for her stuffed animals, became a full hobby. She was encouraged to take part in theatre productions by her parents, who, for once, were proud of their chubby daughter. Idina seemed to only find a connection with her parents when she was performing. In later years, Idina came to terms with their cold relationship and resented her parents for it, visiting them only begrudgingly for some holidays.
Growing up, Idina tended to rely on food to deal with her feelings. She was considered fat for as long as she could remember and used sarcasm to deflect frequent teasing. It wasn't until an incident shortly after graduating Hogwarts made her reexamine her life that Idina decided to lose weight. Though she practically lost a person, she still fights self-esteem issues developed during her "chubby time."
Perhaps her true salvation came during her Hogwarts years, where Idina truly found herself. She loved to learn, although she was never quite valedictorian, and she made friends for the first time (or at least, a good friend and some other people she got along with). There was one subject that she excelled at above all others: stargazing. Something about the logic and majesty of the night sky appealed to her, and she loved getting lost in the heavens. Despite her parents' protests, Idina chose to study astronomy after Hogwarts and spent a few years traveling and studying the subject. Recently, she returned to Hogwarts to fill the position of astronomy professor, passing on the subject she loved so much.
Personality: Thanks to a lifetime of being ignored or teased, Idina has developed a penchant for sarcasm. Always ready for a quip or a dig, she finds this kind of detached conversation much easier than finding a way to emotionally connect with everyone. There are, however, a few people that she cares about and who she would do anything for, including have a nice, meaningful conversation with. Those people are few and far between. Sometimes she wishes that connection was easier, but she doesn't let on.
Underneath it all, Idina is tremendously self-conscious, especially of her appearance. It took her a lot of work to lose all of her weight, and she is terrified of gaining it all back. Idina also has little dumb moments. In most cases, she gets flustered by someone (a crush or an authority figure, perhaps) and says something stupid that she instantly regrets. Once flustered, she has a hard time recovering, and she worries that she will make a fool out of herself.
